A Lifetime of Good Food
From the 1960s to today, Jumbo Jim continues to leave a legacy

Jim and Leona
Our story can't begin without the dynamic duo that started it all. James "Jumbo Jim" and Leona "Onnie" Hammes had little idea of the cullinary journey that would begin when they worked to create food that brought people together...
Jumbo's Drive In
Known for his slightly short appearance but giant personality, James "Jumbo Jim" Hammes opened a drive in restaraunt in Mandan, ND, featuring what would become his famous sloppy joes.

Jumbo's is a Hit!
Demand for Jumbo's Sloppy Joes increased even after Jumbo retired! His daughter Patty continued to meet demand, making sauce for weddings, graduation parties, and social events.
Hey, Why Don't We Can This Stuff?
After making her millionth batch of sloppy joe, Patty and her husband John worked out the details to sell the now famous Jumbo's Sloppy Joe in the grocery store. So, the Jumbo's you know, love, and probably have in your pantry, was born.

Pride of Dakota
In 2013, we started attending Pride of Dakota events. Like, when Dot's Pretzels was there? So were we. (sorry, just can't help but name drop). The kids, Megan and Tommy, even got involved. They learned business skills and got to meet people who worked for their Grandpa Hammes at Jumbo's Drive In! Those connections led us to wonder...
Hey, Why Don't We Sell Sloppy Joes Again?
In 2015 our family found the perfect food truck to start bringing the taste of Jumbo's to the streets of Fargo! We continue to bring the food truck out to corporate lunches, the Red River Market, graduation parties, and a variety of events!
